The Nominees for the 2015 Emmy Awards were announced Thursday morning, July 16, 2015 by So You Think You Can Dance Host Cat Deeley and breakout star of Orange is the New Black, Uzo Adubo (original cast member of Godspell 2012 Revival).
Among the many talented nominees are authors and collaborators of some of MTI’s most loved shows. Congratulations to all!
Garnering three nominations is Mel Brooks. Nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series (FX Networks The Comedians), Outstanding Variety Special and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special (HBO’s Mel Brooks Live At The Geffen), Mr. Brooks is the mastermind behind such hits as THE PRODUCERS and YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.
Earning two nominations for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for FX Networks’ The Comedians and the opening number for The 2015 Oscars are Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson – Lopez. Robert Lopez won a Best Original Score TONY Award in 2004 for AVENUE Q. He and Kristen also collaborated on Disney’s WINNIE THE POOH KIDS.
Marc Shaiman, the composer and lyricist of the Broadway blockbuster HAIRSPRAY and CATCH ME IF YOU CAN earned a nomination for Outstanding Writing For A Variety Special for his contributions to The Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special.
PBS’s production of SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET (Live from Lincoln Center) earned three award nominations total. Emma Thompson earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Series Or A Movie for her portrayal of Mrs. Lovett. The production is also nominated for Outstanding Music Direction by Conductor and Music Director Alan Gilbert and Outstanding Special Class Program.
